This research aims at raising a number of issues related to Greimas's semiotic theory, which seeks to go beyond the classical, linguistic and structural approaches so as to clarify the conditions for achieving significance in the various narrative and descriptive discourses and others. In the first part, we focus on the most important narrative tributaries from which this model was drawn, such as the research of Vladimir Propp on the strange myth and Claude Levi-Strauss in the field of myth. Then, we analyze the most important principles and assumptions on which narrative semiotics was based, according to the Paris School perspective. In the second part, we shed light on the set of problems raised by this approach, so we explain its limitations on the theoretical level, such as the work of meaning within the levels of the text and the issue of abstract terms, in addition to its limitation, at the applied level, to interpreting the text without interpreting it. Then, we offer some solutions to overcome the limitations of the model by opening to Paul Ricoeur's views related to the hermeneutical project.
